“Before there was Rome, there was Hallstatt”
Bambi, a Life in the Woods
One of my primary goals when travelling around Bavaria was to wear as many dirndls as I could, especially since I don’t know when I will have a chance to go back. Aside from the dirndls I also have a very special dress that was created by a designer @kim_schwarzwald_couture from the Black Forest. I never asked her, so I don’t know if it’s true, but looking at it I like to imagine that this dress was inspired by the famous Black Forest fairytale Snow White, whose eponymous protagonist, is loved by all the animals in the forest; especially the cute deer that adorns the front of the dress.
When I was trying to come up with a look for this outfit, I struggled to decide which earrings to pair with the dress, so I asked my dear husband (who seems to have seen more Disney movies than međź¤). He suggested that, since this cute deer resembles Bambi, I should bring Bambi’s best friend (Thumper the rabbit) to the party. Serendipitously, the next day, a jewelry maker @reisch.barbara in Vienna posted a pair of rabbit earrings from her latest collection on Instagram, so I ordered them right away. A fairytale dress deserves a fairytale location, and the best spot along our travels that I could come up with was the iconic town of Halstatt; known for it’s panoramic views across the lake.
Despite the inclement weather, including torrential downpours that sent us scampering for cover, and the bone-chilling wind coming down across the lake from the snowy peaks, the photos turned out beautifully and, of course, the dress is the star of the show; completely in tune with the vibe of the town. I can’t imagine a better dress for the occasion.
Unfortunately, the signature Disney cheer didn’t rub off on me that day, as a week of endless rain had stressed me out. So I owe many thanks (and some apologies) to my dear @leeloothefirst for her continuous encouragement, energy and patience with me, not to mention her love for her work.
